How Scores Work

Which Should I Buy aggregates product reviews from YouTube creators, blogs, and trusted experts. We use two complementary scores to give you the clearest picture of how a product is received — one based on reviewer ratings, and one based on AI-assisted analysis of what reviewers actually say.

What is the Critic Score?

The Critic Score is a straightforward average of the ratings that reviewers explicitly publish in their content — things like “8 out of 10” or “4.5 stars.” We normalize all ratings to a consistent 0–10 scale so they can be compared fairly.

Only reviews where the creator gave a clear, explicit rating are included. If a reviewer shares their opinion without assigning a specific score, that review contributes to the WSIB Score instead but not the Critic Score.

Minimum threshold

A product needs at least 3 reviews with explicit ratings before a Critic Score appears. Below that threshold, we don't display one — we'd rather show nothing than show something unreliable.

What is the WSIB Score?

The WSIB Score (Which Should I Buy Score) is our own metric. It represents the overall consensus across all reviews for a product — not just those with explicit ratings.

We use AI-powered sentiment analysis to understand the tone and substance of each review. Every review is weighted equally, regardless of the reviewer's audience size or platform. The result is a single score on a 0–10 scale that reflects what the broader review community thinks of a product.

Minimum threshold

A product needs at least 5 reviews before a WSIB Score appears. This ensures the consensus is meaningful and not skewed by a small sample.

Why two scores?

Some reviewers don't give number ratings — they just share their experience. The Critic Score captures explicit ratings; the WSIB Score captures the full picture. Together, they give you both the hard numbers and the community vibe.

How Quotes Are Verified

Every quote you see on WSIB is a direct excerpt from the reviewer's original content — a YouTube video, blog post, or written review. We never paraphrase, rewrite, or use AI to generate quotes.

For video content, quotes are extracted from transcripts and linked to the exact timestamp so you can click through and hear it in context. All quotes are reviewed by our team before they appear on the site.

If a quote looks slightly different from what you hear in a video, it's likely a minor transcription variation — the meaning is always preserved. You can always verify by clicking the timestamp link.

Data Sources and Freshness

We aggregate reviews from multiple platforms to build a complete picture:

  • YouTube reviews — video reviews from tech creators and product experts
  • Written reviews — articles and reviews from blogs, publications, and specialist sites

Our pipeline regularly discovers and processes new reviews. Scores update as new reviews are added, so they reflect the most current consensus. Products with reviews older than two years are flagged to help you factor in how current the information is.

Reviewer Opt-Out

We respect content creators' rights. If you're a reviewer and would prefer your content not be included on WSIB, you can request removal.

To opt out, email hello@whichshouldibuy.com with the URL of your content and we'll remove it promptly. We aim to process all opt-out requests within 7 business days.

We believe in transparency. If you have questions about how we calculate scores or handle reviews, reach out to hello@whichshouldibuy.com.
